Roger Kortko Esoteric

Roger Kortko was the Islanders 6th pick, 126th overall in the 1982 Amateur Draft. He played with the Isles from 84/85 - 85/86. He became a free agent in July 1987.

One of the things that sticks out about Roger is that unlike most of today's Islanders he has played in 10 games in the playoffs while wearing an Islander sweater. In those 10 games he scored 3 assists and sat for 17 minutes. Not sure how the 17 minutes breaks down but he did drop the gloves with Lindsay Carson in Game 3 of the 1985 Quarterfinals on April 23rd.

Here is the Kortko Esoteric:

Roger played in 79 games with the Islanders. That stands the test of time and he is still #164th on the all-time games played roster. He is in sole possesion 1 game behind Gerry Desjardins.

His 7 Goals lands him at the #148th spot. This ties him with some pretty prolific company: Alexi Zhitnik, Randy Robitaille, Reed Larson (former Red WIng Captain), Ted Donato (Coach - Harvard Univ.), Derek Armstrong, Don Blackburn (Expansion Draftee from NY Ranger & 1st Coach of Hartford Whalers), Kirk Muller (Historic NYI) , Claude Loiselle (GM of AHL's Norfolk Admirals), and Brent Hughes (Austin Ice Bats Head Coach - http://www.icebats.com/theteam.php?brent_hughes).

17 Assists ranks him in the #136th position overall. It ties him with Marc "I'm not Bergeron" Bergevin, Chris "I'm not Garfunkel" Simon, and Jorgen "I'm not Kenny" Jonsson.

7 Goals and 17 Assists adds up to 24 points and the #144th tally. It ties him with Cliff Ronning, Adam Creighton, and Hector Marini.

His 17 playoff PIMs were nothing compared to his 28 regular season PIMs. Click the link below to see more info on Roger's fights. He is tied with Brian Mulle, Dave Mcllwain and Viktor Kozlov for the #211th spot on the PIM list.

Roger is one of 167 players to score a Power Play Goal and is one of 171 players to net a Game Winner for the New York Islanders.
